TVMC 2009 Cruise-in information and April 18th meeting

Posted by Judson Hudson in Club News
Post date: April 8, 2009

Hey hey!  Have some news to share with you regarding our next meeting as well as our plans for the 2009 cruise-in season!

Let’s get the meeting details out of the way.  Our monthly club meeting will be held Saturday, April 18th at the usual place (The Optimist Club) and at the usual time (from 8AM-10AM).  For this month, we’re going to be treated with Roy Gronau’s pro-street Cuda presentation…as last month we ran into a bit of a problem and he wasn’t able to present it.

Now our plans for the cruise ins… This year, things are going to be different.  Instead of holding our own cruise-in, we’re going to mix things up a bit and hop on-board with existing cruise-ins in hopes of better advertising our club and getting to know the other car clubs in the existing area.  Each month will have a different location, so watch this section for where we are planning to be!

Saturday, April 18 – We’ll be heading out to the Steak & Shake off of Spring Ave. in Decatur, Al. (see map).  The cruise in starts at 6pm and lasts til 9pm.  All rides are welcome, and the Decatur Mopar Club will be putting on the event.  There is absolutely no cost (well, the food does!), music will be playing, well lighted parking lot, and even coupons for the food!

Saturday, May 2 – Our May cruise-in is a lot earlier than normal, and there is a good reason!  We’re going to the ‘Cruise the Square’ held in the town square of Athens, Al.  The event kicks off at 3pm and lasts til 9pm.  Of course, you are welcome to come and go at any time!  Many, many vehicles will be there – it’s open up to all special rides and motorcycles.  There are quite a few places you can grab a bite to eat, as well as to shop.  Spend part of the day and join us on May 2!

See you there!

Next TVMC Meeting – Saturday, March 21, 2009

Get ready for our monthly meeting this Saturday, March 21!  Come join us over at the Optimist Club from 8-10AM as one of our members (Roy Gronau) will be bringing us a presentation on his Pro Street Cuda.  Those of you who are faithful newsletter readers will no doubt remember several Project Pages dedicated to this former race car turned Pro Street car. Roy has managed to turn this car into a real head-turner. Roy is almost done with his ride and you will soon see it at a cruise-in near you. Come on out and join us as we drool over Roy’s new toy!

For directions to the Optimist Club, check out the available directions and map.

Our monthly meeting is fast approaching, are you ready?  Come join the TVMC gang at the Optimist Club this Saturday, February 21 from 8-10AM.  We will cover many topics.  We need to discuss where we would like to hold our monthly cruise-ins for the spring and summer months,  an open slot for our Vice President as our current VP makes the move to Detroit, and Lennie will hold a discussion of his project working on the top of his 440 big block engine.  We will also take some time to remember Chris Louden.

New site design & 2009 Show & Go Flyer now published!

I’ve been working on a new “cleaner” design for the website the past two weeks and I just finally got to the point that it can be published. There might be a few kinks here and there with things not looking right, but don’t worry, I’ll try to correct them during this week. The new design also allowed me to implement a new feature – an events calendar where I can add upcoming car shows a lot easier! Of course, I need to fill it with events, so please be patient while I work on that new feature.

In other news, the show flyer for the 2009 Show & Go Event can now be viewed and printed for your pleasure. Check it out on our Show & Go page.

And Bob Glover has published the February newsletter, catch it in our Club Info section if you’ve yet to read it!

Rest in Peace, Chris Louden: 1966 – 2009

News struck earlier last week that one of our own mopar members, Christopher Louden, had passed away. We were all sadden by the news as it came to a surprise to everyone. ‘Chris’ as everybody knew him as was an all-around awesome guy. His favorite hobby was cars – mopars in general. He was extremely knowledgeable in the mopar scene, and always offered a helping hand when needed.

I myself used to bug Chris all the time as we shared the same interest – Dukes and The General Lee. He always cracked up laughing when I mentioned “Hey, when are you going to start working on your 73′ Charger?” as he was always focused on getting his 1966 Charger pieced back together. Not to mention the countless times we swapped pics of our projects thru email.

According to Chris, one of his most beloved cars was the Dirty Mary Crazy Larry 1969 Charger…He always dreamed of one day being able to own a replica of that famous mopar. Well, as sad as it may seem down here to us, I’m sure he’s up there ripping and roaring in his new car. You will be truly missed, Chris, by both your family and friends. Hopefully we’ll meet again someday.

Happy New Year, everyone! Hope you had a great start. We’ll be resuming our normal club meetings at the Optimist Club (see navigation menu on side for directions) this Saturday, Jan. 17th from 8-10AM. We’ll be treated to club member Doug Eagan’s presentation of part 2 of Engine Talk.

Speaking of the club, did you know that club fee’s are due? That’s right, it’s January and we are collecting the $20 club fee. The fee covers the whole family and will pay your way all the way until 2010. Please make it to the meeting. If not, visit our Club Info page and fill out an application.

And remember, if you don’t pay your dues, you’ll have to hand wash all of the cars at our TVMC 2009 Car Show! :D Kidding – but get those dues in!

Busy, busy, busy – that’s seems to wrap up my life. Been awhile since I last posted, but I have some news to share. To keep me from rambling, I’ll list the news in bullet format:

  • Cruise Ins – Cruise-ins are finished for this year, they will resume in March of 2009! If any details are change in either the location or time, I’ll let you know.
  • WAAY Christmas Parade – The parade is Saturday, Dec. 6. TVMC as a club will not participate this year, so if you’re interested in joining, check with other car clubs or organizations!
  • TVMC Christmas Party – Our Christmas Party will be held on Saturday, December 13th from 6:30 to 9 PM. Club members and their family can join us at the Oh Bryan’s Steakhouse in East Huntsville off of Hwy. 72. Each person is covered for up to $11 for their dinner and $1.50 for drink. Any more than that, you’ll have to pay the additional cost yourself. For details to get to Oh Bryans, visit their website.
  • TVMC Show & Go Photos – I’ve still yet to receive them and I am sorry. I cannot do anything at the moment but once I get them, they will be published!
  • Events Page – To make things easier on me, I am linking to the North Alabama Car Club website to cover the local car shows/cruises in the surrounding area. They are a lot better at covering events than I am.
  • Dragway problems – George Howard will no longer be running the Huntsville Dragway. What does that mean for the 2009 TVMC Show? We’re currently checking out the details and once we speak with a few people, we’ll post information pertaining to the 2009 show.

Next meeting – October 18th

Come join us this Saturday at the Optimist Club (see sidebar for directions) for our monthly meeting. This month, I’ll be showing a dvd called Mopar Madness that covers last year’s Mopar National show on the Barracuda tribute. We’ll also have random chit-chats as well as information pertaining to our Christmas dinner coming up in early December. Come join us, the fun starts at 8AM and goes to 10!
